 Stress is “any stimulus such as fear or pain that can disturb or interfere with the physiological equilibrium of an organism” or in simpler terms, how we react to everyday life. Stress affects every person every day in every part of the world. Certain factors of our daily lives can affect our levels of stress, creating different symptoms and leave us depressed, anxious and just uncomfortable. Some of these stressors include work situations that are difficult, relationship problems, loneliness, financial problems or worries, death of a loved one, divorce or health problems among others.All of these symptoms of stress in women can be divided into different categories such as physical, cognitive or mental, emotional and behavioral.

Physical symptoms include tension headaches, backaches, tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing or sleeping, diarrhea, fatigue, loss of sexual interest and possibly stomach cramping.Cognitive symptoms include difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, worrying, thoughts of death, perfectionist tendencies, indecisiveness, feelings of being helpless, or blowing things out of proportion.Emotional symptoms include depression, anger, anxiety, low self-esteem, moodiness, suspicions, guilt, feeling weepy, and loss of motivation.Behavioral symptoms include increased alcohol usage, cigarette smoking, increased use of caffeine, drug use, overeating, violence, weight gain or loss, relationship conflicts, and decreased activity.If you are experiencing symptoms of stress you will need to find ways to manage it. One of the best stress relief techniques is getting plenty of exercise.



Our natural reaction to stressors in our life is the “fight or flight”. This response to stress naturally puts our bodies in prime form for exercise.Exercising on a regular basis can lower the production of stress hormones in our bodies and can help to avoid the damage that can be caused by prolonged stress. It is a scientific fact that exercise is a powerful antidepressant, reduces anxiety and allows for sleep in many people.Other stress relief techniques may include meditation or other relaxation techniques. One or two 20-30 minute sessions in meditation every day can have long-term benefits to your overall health. Eliminating drugs and limiting the intake of alcohol also are excellent treatments for stress symptoms.


 It is widely known that people under stress will turn to drugs or alcohol however it is also known that these items can also make us more sensitive to stress.We all know that prolonged episodes of stress can be harmful to our emotional and physical well-being. Because of this, it is extremely important to take breaks and relax. During your lunch hour, don’t talk about work. Go for a walk on coffee breaks, take weekends to relax and don’t over-schedule yourselves.
